The Old House Watches Over

Ran Hongchao quits his high-paying job and returns to his hometown, only to learn that his younger brother Ran Jianbo, together with Li Mengqing, is forcing their mother to sell the ancestral house to raise bride price so he can marry into the wealthy Liu family and wed Liu Siya—and he refuses to acknowledge his own kin. Wen Xiuhua sells the old house and drifts from place to place, narrowly missing Ran Hongchao several times. At the wedding, Wen Xiuhua, working as a cleaner, tries to acknowledge her son and is humiliated instead; Ran Hongchao appears and shields his mother, his true identity is exposed, and Ran Jianbo is filled with regret. Ran Hongchao buys back the old house and reunites with his mother, only to discover that all the money he sent home was pocketed by his brother. Ran Jianbo and his accomplices coerce Wen Xiuhua, and rather than drag her son down, she attempts suicide by poison but fails. Ran Hongchao exposes the entire conspiracy, hands Ran Jianbo and Li Mengqing over to the law, and leaves resolutely with his mother.
