Lin Xiaoman is forced by her grandmother Zhao Jinfeng to marry Wang Sanlai, a local thug from Banshan Village. To escape the arranged marriage and uncover the truth about her mother Chunlan, who was accused of abandoning her husband and daughter, she teams up with Chen Chuan to set a trap and gather evidence. Following the red hair ribbon, account book, and cassette tapes her mother left behind, the two expose a scandal from fifteen years ago in which compensation money was fraudulently claimed. Wang Sanlai pushes Chunlan in his attempt to seize the account book, and Zhao Jinfeng stays silent because she accepted hush money. Once the truth comes to light, Xiaoman refuses to submit any longer and establishes the Red Ribbon Mutual Aid Station to help more women—only to discover that the mastermind behind it all has yet to appear.
