Unclaimed Tenderness

In 1988, six-year-old Lin Wanxing loses both her parents, and every relative schemes and passes the buck, leaving her an unwanted orphan nobody will take in. At rock bottom, Gu Zhengyang—a down-and-out, weathered veteran—takes her in on a moment of softness. One is a cautious, sensible child who grows up in desperate straits; the other is a defeated, desolate adult crushed by life. Two people in the winter of their lives lean on each other in a shabby little courtyard. Together they withstand the village's gossip and relatives' greedy schemes, warming each other through the small everyday moments of life in a mutual redemption.
