A Snip of the Heart
In a waterside paper workshop, preparations are underway to review and display a large-scale paper-cut window lattice—but anomalies emerge: glossy film on the paper, repeated notches, reverse clamp marks, and a missing master pattern. Rather than rushing to argue, the team moistens the paper, folds it, examines the fibers, checks the edges under side light, and re-cuts under identical conditions, gradually uncovering that someone swapped handmade paper and mixed in batch-produced imitation pieces to meet deadlines and protect profits. Facing the truth, the team repairs the flower stems and corrects the color registration while refining their public inspection process. In the end, the imitation pieces are withdrawn and the errors remedied; the genuine paper-cut work withstands scrutiny through solid craftsmanship and integrity, allowing this traditional craft to carry on through the preservation of authenticity.
