The Ballad of Yunxi Bamboo Paper
In Yunxi Town, the ancient craft of bamboo paper-making faces extinction. Shen Yan, a dedicated inheritor, insists on preserving all one hundred steps of the traditional process, while designer Su Jin hopes to bring bamboo paper into everyday life through modern design. Starting from clashing ideals, the two join forces to experiment—harvesting bamboo, making pulp, lifting sheets, and drying paper—enduring failures and friction along the way. They keep the core of the ancient craft while innovating with paper lanterns, fans, bookmarks, and notebooks. In the end, Yunxi bamboo paper earns recognition at an intangible cultural heritage exhibition, and they open a teaching workshop so that the ancient craft can continue to grow in a new era.
